| GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
General Safety Instructions determine, for defined fields of activity or defined types of equipment, how Safety Regulations, Plans and Procedures must be implemented. These Safety Instructions are usually issued to cover CERN-wide aspects.
GSI-C1 - Prevention and protection measures
en
fr
This General Safety Instruction applies to all CERN activities involving hazardous chemical agents. It sets out the minimum requirements which prevention and protection measures must satisfy in order to ensure the protection of persons from risks to their occupational health and safety arising, or likely to arise, from the effects of hazardous chemical agents that are present at the workplace or used in any CERN activity.
GSI-C2 - Explosive atmospheres
en
fr
This General Safety Instruction applies to all CERN activities involving hazardous chemical agents where explosive atmospheres are present or may be present. It sets out the minimum requirements to ensure the protection of persons from risks to their occupational health and safety arising, or likely to arise, from explosive atmospheres.
GSI-C3 - Monitoring of exposure to hazardous chemical agents in workplace atmospheres
en
fr
This General Safety Instruction applies to all CERN activities where hazardous chemical agents are present or are likely to be present in workplace atmospheres. It sets out the minimum requirements regarding the monitoring of exposure to hazardous chemical agents in workplace atmospheres.
GSI-M1 - Standard Lifting Equipment
en
fr
This General Safety Instruction defines binding general requirements for standard lifting equipment during its life-cycle.
Equipment which falls within this category is jib cranes, overhead travelling cranes, gantry cranes, hoists, pallet trucks, fork-lift trucks, lifting platforms, winches, jacks.
This General Safety Instruction covers also lifting accessories like slings, chains, cables, ropes, hooks, rings and lifting beams, including those for moving such loads in a horizontal plane.
This General Safety Instruction refers and is based on European Directives
98/37/EC,
89/655/EEC and
95/63/EC.
GSI-M2 - Standard Pressure Equipment
en
fr
This General Safety Instruction defines binding general requirements for standard pressure equipment during its life-cycle.
Standard pressure equipment must comply with the Standards defined by the European Union as “Harmonised European Standards”, which are a specific subset of the European Standards (EN).
This General Safety Instruction refers and is based on European Directives
97/23/EE,
87/404/EEC et
99/36/EC.
GSI-M3 - Special Mechanical Equipment
en
fr
This General Safety Instruction defines binding general requirements for special mechanical equipment during its life-cycle.
It applies to mechanical equipment not falling within the scope of the applicable European Directives or which, due to its designated function, cannot comply with European Directives.
This General Safety Instruction applies to metallic structures not falling within the scope of Eurocodes or standard mechanical equipment classified by the Department as equipment of high Safety relevance.
Safety rules are also classified by domains (Safety rules by domains).
