REPORTING OF ACCIDENTS (including near misses)

In this context the word "accident" is used to denote any event which has caused, or could have caused, personal injuries or material damages to CERN's property occurring:

on the CERN site (whether connected with CERN's activities or not);
in the course of duty (even off the CERN site, including travel to or from work).

To prevent accidents reoccurring, to reinforce safety measures and for insurance purposes, all accidents must be reported to the supervisor and to Safety Commission via the Group Leader.

An Electronic Document (EDH) must be completed in accordance with Safety Code A2.

In addition, in the case of injuries suffered by a member of the personnel, a health insurance accident report  form HS 50 (also available in the departmental secretariats), must be completed and forwarded to the victim's group secretariat. If the injured person is unable to complete this report, any witnesses are required to inform his group leader.

Every year a report is issued presenting the statistics of professional accident of the members of personnel and outside firms working on the CERN site .
